My ET Daily Protocol as Advised by the Brain Doctor

So what do I do every day to try to keep my tremors a bit more manageable? I’m not on meds but the following protocol my neuro (movement disorder specialist) put me on 5 years ago has made a noticeable difference (husband can attest). Still have bad, terrible days here and there like all of us, (bad days are increasingly getting worse though) but severity of the shakes has overall reduced. My regimen:

1. More low impact exercise. Thanks to lockdown during the Panemic, I finally took my nuero’s advice I started walking daily, have been walking twice a day rain or shine a total of 4-6 miles. Not power walking (makes me shake more), just leisurely walks listing to podcasts. Yes, I’m a nerd. But in the best physical shape of my life!

2. Daily brain teasers

3. More sleep. This is tough as im peri menopausal (44) and night sweats and insomnia are a daily battle. But when I get at least 6-7 hours, tremors are lessened significantly. But that’s rare. Ahhh, the joy of being the fairer sex.

4. Only applies to some: Quit smoking. Ugh. I’ve slipped up, I won’t lie, but I was a very,

very heavy smoker until a couple of years ago so quitting has made a big difference.

5. THE GAME CHANGER - Mediterranean Diet. It’s more a way of eating. I don’t need to lose weight but apart from it being healthy (already ate pretty healthy) there are actual medical studies that posit that way of eating reduces severity of tremor. Just look up ET and the diet and google will direct you.

In a nut shell, it’s more fruits and veg, beans and nuts, more seafood, less chicken and lean pork and waaaay less beef. And olive oil daily in cooking, dressings, dipping. My husband has been so supportive of trying new approaches (and he’s a British meat and potato guy) but it’s healthy eating for him too!
